The Power of Reading

Did you know that the average number of books read by a CEO is 60 books per year?

I recently rediscovered non-fiction books. Yes, that’s right. Rediscovered. I have to admit that after graduating I’ve sort of been neglecting my once great passion for reading books with a message. A couple of months ago, I had an insightful personal experience, and I decided it was time to upgrade my mindset in a completely different way. Where in the past I exclusively relied on the many people in my personal and my professional environment for these matters, I now decided to get inspired elsewhere too, and I started reading educational books again.

I had forgotten how good it felt to smell the odor of new books, and I had forgotten the feeling you get when your mind completely disappears within a world of white pages and small black letters. I had forgotten the joy you get when you read something that makes you think “Wauw, I actually had insight that will serve me in attending my future goals.”

Today I have installed a new habit. I read a minimum of 10 pages of a book – any book that is non-fiction – every day. This 5 minute daily habit has helped me to upgrade my mind to a whole new level. I feel like I learn something new and out of my comfort zone every day, even on days with a busy work and private schedule. I Invite you to do the same for 66 days in a row, this is the time you need to install a new habit into your subconscious mind. Because learning new things and expanding your mind, represent a way to personal and professional growth.

To put it quite simply, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr. Seuss.

Don’t know how or where to start reading? Two of the many books I recommend you to read is “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek and “The Monk who sold his Ferrari” by Robin Sharma. These a both short and easy reads with very inspiring insights on life and on (professional) purposes. Feel free to contact me for more reading material recommendations.
